Amazon Mechanical Turk is a platform where businesses (known as Requesters) can hire millions of workers (Turkers) to perform specific tasks - HIT (Human Intelligence Task) - with the aim of analysing or producing information in areas where artificial intelligence is not good enough, as for example : image content analysis. Source
In automn 2021, I made an account as « Requester » and I hired 102 workers to submit an answer to the following HIT :
« Share with me a personnal memory related to stones. »
Then the answers to the HIT were assembled and encoded to visualise the rock. The visualisation (or rendering) was done using an open-source software normally used by different institutions (industries, laboratories, universities, climate scientists...) to visualise scientific data sets in 3D. This software allows users to simulate environments and climates based on collected data - or data sets. Source
The texts submitted by the workers are like windows. Each window is an image and represents a certain reality as seen from the position of the individual observer.
This process is an attempt to assemble the windows, to display a shared space - a view of the outside world.
This view is the rock. The rock contains unknown space because its foundations is a collection of windows and windows have frames. However the rock accept the unknown and display it - the space in-between the points. The rock is a multiple of fragments among other fragments. The rock is a language tool for thinking, a way of consi- dering and representing time as simultaneous and non-linear.
